What is EMDR ?
Find serenity with EMDR in Aix-en-Provence
At my hypnotherapy practice in Aix-en-Provence, I offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a therapeutic approach developed in 1987 by American psychologist Francine Shapiro.
When should you consult an EMDR practitioner?
Recognized by the WHO and the French National Authority for Health (HAS), EMDR allows the brain to reprocess poorly integrated events. The main therapeutic indications are:
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) linked to a specific event: accident, assault, complicated bereavement, etc.
Trauma related to a recurring event: physical and/or verbal abuse, harassment, etc.
EMDR is also very effective for other conditions, which I will discuss with you in my office if needed.
What to expect during a session at my office ?
Each EMDR session lasts approximately 60 minutes and follows a safe and supportive protocol. I will explain everything before we begin, and then I will ensure that this therapeutic approach is suitable for you. If it isn't, we will use a different approach.
Preparation: Together, we identify the image, emotion, or bodily sensation associated with the painful memory.
Bilateral stimulation: Using guided eye movements, the brain processes the traumatic event to release its disturbing emotional charge.
Positive anchoring: We associate a constructive and calming thought with the event to bring the session to a peaceful close. I often end the session with hypnosis, which allows for deep calming.
