A one-off event
Accident, assault, disaster, a difficult medical procedure, sudden or complicated grief, receiving bad news… Deep traumas as well as lighter ones.
Trauma
Accident, assault, bereavement, bullying, abuse… EMDR and hypnosis help the brain finally file away what has remained stuck.
The event ended long ago, and yet it is still there. Images that come back without warning, nightmares, jumping at the slightest noise, an overwhelming emotion triggered by a smell, a place, a gesture. You avoid certain situations, you are constantly on alert, and you may be telling yourself that you “should have moved on by now”.
This is not a weakness. When an event is too intense, the brain cannot always process it like an ordinary memory: it stays “active”, with its emotional charge intact, as if it had just happened.
What kind of trauma?
A one-off event
Accident, assault, disaster, a difficult medical procedure, sudden or complicated grief, receiving bad news… Deep traumas as well as lighter ones.
Repeated events
Physical or verbal abuse, bullying at school or at work, a toxic relationship, an unsafe family environment…
EMDR, recognised by the WHO and the French National Authority for Health (HAS), allows the brain to reprocess a poorly integrated memory through guided eye movements. The memory remains, but it loses its emotional charge: it becomes an event of the past. A trauma can often be addressed in a single session (very rarely two). More about EMDR.
Hypnosis provides support: to build a sense of safety before the work, to deeply calm the nervous system afterwards, and to strengthen your resources. I often finish an EMDR session with hypnosis.
